The Need: A Complex 90-Day Online Program to Support Cognitive Health for Those at Risk of Dementia
My client—a doctor with extensive experience in geriatrics who has consulted for the World Health Organization (WHO)—realized that many people who need cognitive health support typically don’t get the attention required. She knew that the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER) Trial proved that cognitive health requires people to do five things: eat right, exercise daily, socialize, manage medical conditions and challenge themselves cognitively every day. But how many people have daily access to a dietitian, a physical therapist, a social network, a doctor and effective cognitive challenges? Very few, if any.
From this inspiration arose the idea of MINDR, a complex, 90-day intensive program to support cognitive health and help prevent dementia, translating her knowledge into engaging, actionable activities delivered via a HIPAA-compliant app.
The Process: Discover, Plan, Build, Test and Promote
Step 1: Discovery
Before doing anything else, we came up with a way to clearly communicate the five prongs of the FINGER Trial: Eat Better, Move Your Body, Get Social, Manage the Medical, and Train Your Brain. Then we specced out what this would look like on a daily and weekly schedule, complete with the necessary education and motivating factors to make the program actionable and engaging.
Step 2: Plan
This intensive program takes 45-90 minutes a day to complete, which means we had to lean heavily on motivational interviewing, engaging and compelling education, and entertaining content. This program is not for the faint of heart!
Step 3: Build
Next I built the program, associated email prompts, and coaching communities. In addition to planning the program, writing the copy, and building the program in Quenza I also chose images, found open-source videos and built in self-assessment quizzes to measure progress.
The program includes live coaching, assessments, and daily email prompts, all of which were incorporated into the online course platform tools.
Step 4: Test & Refine
We ran several cohorts through the program as beta testers, complete with coaching and support. At the beginning and every 30 days we provided thorough, high standard assessments, respected in the medical community, to measure both participant enjoyment and progress. 90% of our participants completed the entire 90-day program!
Step 5: Promote
I then built the marketing website (on Squarespace), which is being used to promote the app as they seek investors.
Testimonial
“My name is Inna Marquard (MD). I am the Chief Scientific Officer at MINDR, a digital diagnosis and prevention platform for people at risk for dementia and ADRD.
I am delighted to provide a glowing testimonial for Rachel Mork, a truly gifted program creator. During our collaboration on the MINDR beta trial, I had the privilege of working closely with Rachel, and her exceptional talents left a lasting impression on me.
As a medical professional, I understand the importance of translating complex knowledge into practical solutions that can benefit a wide audience. Rachel took on the challenge of transforming my expertise as a doctor into a 90-day online program focused on supporting cognitive health, and the results were nothing short of remarkable. Her ability to distill intricate medical concepts into accessible and engaging content is truly commendable.
One of the most impressive aspects of Rachel’s work was her knack for presenting exercises and activities in a way that app users not only found easy to follow but also thoroughly entertaining to engage with. The success of any program lies in its ability to captivate and motivate its users, and Rachel achieved this with finesse.
Furthermore, Rachel demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for adapting her approach to meet the unique tone and requirements of our special group of participants.
